There may be some tiny vestiges of mildew showing.... Which would never occur on dry leather. I did give it a quick onceover, and believe there is very little, if any, left. The design is clearly a handmade, handcarved effort.
Whomever had this saddle enjoyed it and spent many hours in it.. However, with small repairs, it should last many more years. As a display, its lovely as is. The seat and horn are tight, the gullet measures just over 6 1/2 inches.
It is double rigged with big, heavy duty brass cinch rings. I have not found a makers mark, but there is little doubt it was a well crafted, personally designed saddle. The fleece should be replaced with real sheepskin, this was a rather crude replacement, although pretty solid. The only other negative criticism I could make is that in places where the leather is double thick, like the fenders, some of the stitching has come loose. Everything still is basically all in place, and it looks as though some type of leather craft glue may have been used. I will be also offering, in another listing, the matching breastplate. I just couldnt add all the pictures to this listing.
