Taken from the book "United States Military Saddles" by Randy Seffen. There had been so many complaints about the inadequacies of the McClelland Saddle when it came to staying on a pitching green remount horse that the Quartermaster Department adopted saddles for the horse breakers. Later they were issued to packers for the use of the riding animals with the pack trains. They were an item of issue as late as 1944; they are part of the equipment carried in the "Quartermaster Supply Catalog" of the year.

This 16 slick fork saddle was made by Litchenberg-Ferguson Saddle Company in 1943 for the US Army. Saddle has a 5 cantle, lace up stirrup fenders and a canter pocket. For it's age the saddle is in good condition. Leather has some wear, seat has a stain on it that you can see in the picture.. Saddle is useable, rigging sound, tree is good.

Great addition to a collection or to use for reenactments. This saddle is a beautiful piece of Cowboy history. At the time it was made, this was a top of the line saddle from one of the country's most prestigious makers.

Was a Los Angeles, California company that operated between the 1923 and 1959. Lichtenberger-Ferguson chaps, saddles and holsters were prized for their workmanship and style. They continue to be highly collectible pieces today. The item "US Military Saddle made by Lichtenberger-Ferguson, Vintage Western Saddle" is in sale since Sunday, May 5, 2019.
