Wool probably original and in excellent shape. Harry Stanhope, Reece, Kansas engraved in silver on back of cantle. I saddled it up on a large Appaloosa.
The most ride-able, comfortable and solid saddle I have ever used. Especially when my horse hit his fifth gait as appaloosas are wont to do. Like sitting in a rocking chair going 30 miles per hour. I only put it on the horse one time to try it out, honestly this saddle looks like it's never been used.
On display for many years at J. Bartfield Gallery of Western Art in Manhattan. Saddle right now is at Lift Trucks Gallery in Croton Falls, NY. This is an original very ornate saddle made by Charles P. Shipley of Kansas City, Missouri. Shipley Saddlery and Mercantile Company of Kansas City. This example shows a rich and artistic ornate tooled leather floral and leaf typical western design, marked with the early oval Chas. Shipley Maker Kansas City, MO. The saddle has a rounded skirt with leather wrapped stirrups, large silver conchos.Condition Excellent does not look like ever ridden, although, there seems to be small repair on a rifle loop on top near pommel. Sale includes two pieces: Saddle and the accompanying original 1928 Chas P. Shipley Kansas City, MO catalog. But would not recommend sending the stand as it weighs about 80 pounds.
