This particular saddle has a special pouch that was specifically used for horseshoe nails because of the long distances traveled. You definitely didn't want to be caught with a lamed-up horse with a thrown shoe in the middle of nowhere back in the day, so this pocket was added.

You won't see this pouch on many saddles! The military used a few saddles like this, and so did the forest service.

This saddle is in amazing condition for its age. The woolskin underneath is also in exceptional condition for being over 100 years old! Included will also be a very old saddle pad from a similar era.
